The University of Kansas (KU) is a comprehensive research university, one of only 34 public universities belonging to the Association of American Universities.
KU performs basic and applied research at two locations: the main campus in Lawrence and the Medical Center, located 40 minutes east in Kansas City.
In 2006, total KU research and development expenditures were $292 million.
