Faculty, staff and student inventors and creators should submit disclosures per KU IP Policy. The purpose of these forms is to record what was invented, and the circumstances under which the invention was created. This is the foundation for a patent, and should be filled out as completely as possible when something new, useful, unusual or unexpected has been obtained.
After receiving a disclosure, KUIC will contact you to arrange an interview to discuss the IP and address any questions you may have.;
The disclosure will then be evaluated to determine potential commercialization and will likely consult with the inventor to determine whether protection is appropriate.;
If it is determined that there is commercial potential, KUIC will file a patent application and keep you abreast every step of the way.
